Barry is a seasoned professional. Prior to becoming licensed as a financial advisor in 1998, Barry garnered 24 years of experience in the real estate, mortgage management, and property development areas. This diversified background has equipped him with the experience to help his clients enhance their financial security.
A Certified Financial Planner since 2004, Barry believes that continuing education is essential to stay on top of this complex field. He has broadened his industry education with additional professional designations: Certified Health Insurance Specialist and Certified Professional Consultant on Aging.
Barry acquired a passion for helping people from his roots as a teacher and then as a professional sport coach. His success as a ‘financial coach’ with Soper Financial Ltd. is a natural extension of his dedication to helping people improve their lives and achieve their own success.
Barry started as a competitive junior tennis player, but really found his stride when he teamed with figure skater Louise Lind to first become Novice and Junior Ice Dance Champions of Canada, and then four-time Ice Dance Champions of Canada from 1971 to 1974. Barry and Louise represented Canada at four World Figure Skating Championships, and married in the process. They have four children and reside in North Vancouver.
Barry chose to give back to the sport by becoming a professional ice dance coach for 25 years – during his business career – and for many years was elected to be the Coaches’ Rep for Skate BC and Skate Canada. In 1980, Barry and Louise were recognized for their figure skating achievements by being inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame.
